Automotive Engineering Technology A.A.S

The Automotive Engineering Technology programme explores various automotive systems. It introduces students to the fundamentals of automotive testing, servicing and repairs. The programme features instruction in mechanical workshop technology, auto electrical and electronic systems, auto body repairs, internal combustions engines, fuel and emission systems, auto air-conditioning, advanced diagnostics and performance.

The two-year associate’s degree programme involves classroom instruction and hands-on training in a workshop setting. Students learn hands-on applications of new technologies in the automotive field. Students are expected to complete specialized and core courses along with a field attachment component which provides additional hands-on and on-the-job experience.

The first year of the programme seeks to focus on the knowledge and skills needed to do maintenance and repair work in a safe working environment. The second year builds on lessons of the first year with a more in-depth look at the automobile in the related areas.

Students who complete the programme qualify for entry-level positions in car dealerships, transmission shops, automobile service shop or independent auto repair shops. Some popular careers include: auto body repairer; automotive service technician and automotive engineering technician Graduates of this programme aspire to become specialist in related areas such as:

• engine repair
• brake systems
• electrical systems
• gearboxes and transmission
• heating and air-conditioning
• suspension and steering
• Diagnostics
• auto body repair
